Le Mej’Lavande, our cheese of the month
A gourmet getaway in the heart of Occitanie
This month, our cheesemongers invite you to set off for Occitanie, a region full of character where the landscapes alternate between wild limestone plateaus, sun-drenched valleys and the scents of the garrigue. It is in this bountiful region, where goats roam freely amidst rich, fragrant flora, that some of the finest farmhouse cheeses from France.
Among these treasures, the Mej’Lavande – also known as Méj’O Lavande – stands out: a delicate farmhouse speciality made from raw whole goat’s milk in the Lot department. True to the traditional craftsmanship, each cheese is moulded by hand and takes on its characteristic quenelle shape, a symbol of authentic production.
What makes it unique is a touch that is as delicate as it is elegant: a lavender floral water from Quercy, subtly blended in. Far from masking the flavours of the goat’s milk, it enhances them by adding a a light, perfectly balanced floral note.
Beneath its natural crust lies a soft, creamy and melt-in-the-mouth centre, which reveals a remarkably smooth texture. On the palate, the Mej’Lavande offers a subtle balance between the milky freshness of goat’s cheese and the delicate aromatic notes of lavender, for a truly refined tasting experience.
To make the most of this culinary treat, our cheesemongers recommend pairing it with a crisp white wine or a dry rosé from Provence. The vintages of the Château Margüi or Château Les Crostes, available at the Kaempff-Kohler Wine Cellar, elegantly reveal the full character of this exceptional cheese. 🧀🌿🍷
