It bears the name of its creator, Caesar Cardini, an Italian-American chef, born near Lake Maggiore in Italy, who went on to become a restaurateur first in the United States and then in Mexico, notably in Tijuana, where he created his famous salad in 1924.
The base is very simple:
Romaine lettuce, garlic croutons, olive oil, Parmesan Reggiano, hard-boiled or soft-boiled eggs, salt, pepper, a little Worcestershire sauce and there you have it, ready to be served.
Of course, the chefs didn’t stop there. Today there are a large number of contemporary variations with various ingredients.
