Brasserie Papyllon, well established since 1925, just across the border on the banks of the Moselle in Sierck-les-Bains, offers craft beers made with natural and local ingredients.
In 1925, Pierre Weber, the great-grandfather, created a simple beer warehouse, an activity continued and developed by his son, who stopped beer racking in 1956 to focus on lemonade production and begin beverage distribution.
One hundred years later, François and Vincent, the 3rd and 4th generation, are reviving the company’s history by creating the Papyllon family brewery, at the exact location where it all began nearly 100 years ago.
Papyllon beers are brewed with simplicity, without chemical additives or artificial flavors. They are unfiltered, unpasteurized, and naturally carbonated. The malts are from organic farming and come partly from grains harvested in the Grand Est region. The hops are grown in Alsace and Moselle.
The 6 varieties offered at the Fromagerie – Cave à Vins Kaempff-Kohler are far from ordinary beers. These are special creations well worth discovering.
The “Bohemian” is part of a series of beers called “Bohemian Grappe Story”, which are brewed in collaboration with local winemakers. Specifically, the “Papyllon Bohemian” is brewed with Pinot Gris must from Domaine Sontag in Contz-les-Bains.
The “Pale Ale Blonde” with its beautiful golden color is fruity and quite floral on the nose. The palate is full-bodied and refreshing, with a smooth bitterness.
The “Pils de Montenach” is brewed with barley from the Klauss farm.
The “Jeu, Set et Smash” is a naturally hazy beer, unfiltered and unpasteurized, made from organic malts and Alsatian hops. It has a copper color, an expressive nose of fresh fruit and sweet spices, and on the palate, it is dry and smooth.
“Bee Happy” is a blonde beer brewed with linden honey from the “Rucher des Ducs de Lorraine.” A round beer, indulgent, warm with honeyed notes. This beer pairs very well with aged cheeses or fruit desserts.
And finally, we have the “Vallée Blanche” which, as its name suggests, is a white beer, a “Wheat Beer”, brewed from wheat and organic malts. Unfiltered, unpasteurized, it is very floral and refreshing. Its appearance is opaque. On the nose, it releases notes of lemon, spices, and cut wheat. Its palate is airy, light, and refreshing – the perfect companion for marinated fish and sushi.
The beers from Brasserie artisanale Papyllon – the holy grail for exclusive beer lovers – now at the Fromagerie – Cave à Vins Kaempff-Kohler.
