Big names, exceptional oils
Olive oils that are well worth a visit
Let’s head to two iconic estates in Provence, where tradition, excellence and the art of living come together to produce exceptional olive oils.
In Châteauvert, in the heart of the Haut-Var, Château Margüi is a site that has been in use since Gallo-Roman times and is now owned by George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars. Olives Aglandau, Caillon and Cailletier olives are harvested by hand and then cold-pressed to produce an organic extra virgin olive oil with the ‘Huile de Provence’ PDO designation.
Its floral aroma and notes of fresh almond and hazelnut make it a true gastronomic treasure. The estate, also known for its wines, particularly its rosés combines culinary heritage with first-class hospitality.
An hour and a half’s drive away, in Fontvieille, in the Bouches-du-Rhône, we come across another renowned establishment. At Château d’Estoublon, in the heart of the Alpilles, excellence in olive oil production is reflected in a remarkable range of organic oils, crafted from the finest Provençal olive varieties: Picholine, Béruguette, Salonenque, Grossane, Picholine, Bouteillon and Koroneiki.
Whether plain or subtly flavoured with lemon, basil, thyme or black truffle, they all embody the richness of Mediterranean cuisine.
The history of this large estate, which officially took its name in the 18th century, dates back to the Middle Ages.
Two exceptional properties, two prestigious brands and a shared commitment to quality.
