The pumpkins, witches and ghosts are arriving, and with them, the famous tradition of “Trick or Treat”, in other words: “treats or a trick!”
Every year, at Halloween, on the eve of November 1st, children in costume roam the streets and knock on doors to collect treats… or else they’ll play a prank on adults who are a bit too stingy with the candy 👻
This popular custom is rooted in medieval traditions such as “souling” (collecting soul cakes) or “guising” (disguising) practiced in England, where the poor and children asked for food in exchange for prayers for the deceased — and to appease the spirits.
