Kaempff-Kohler Luxembourg-City, the Mother House

Sep 19, 2025

This is where it all began!

In 1922, Pierre Kaempff and Marguerite Kohler established a pastry shop at 14, rue du Curé, right in the city center, between place Guillaume and place d’Armes.
Over the years, the site became an institution, a renowned meeting place appreciated by lovers of fine things.

In 1950, Kaempff-Kohler took off when Marc Kaempff turned it into an exceptional caterer. Forty-five years later, his sons, the two current managers Guill and Christian Kaempff, transformed the premises for the first time, followed by a second face-lift in 2019. The following year, they opened the cheese shop and wine bar, the first neighbor to the original establishment.

And now the site is reinventing itself once again with the opening of KomptoirK’ on September 18 of this year, the new restaurant which can also be accessed through the iconic boutique.

Throughout all this time, the original address at 14, rue du Curé has maintained its status as a “flagship store”, a true Mother House.

So, let’s talk about this resolutely modern boutique, which has nevertheless managed to preserve the charm of the early years, combining tradition and innovation in a setting that expresses a sense of things well done and immediately inspires confidence in the customer who steps through the door.

In the catering section, the gourmet can enjoy a choice of recipes and fresh products, straight from the Kaempff-Kohler artisanal workshops. Signature dishes, such as the Riesling pâté (invented in the 1920s by Pierre Kaempff, the great-grandfather), home-smoked salmon, and products from the hunting season with the legendary Kaempff-Kohler hare stew or marinated herrings Kaempff-Kohler style, sit alongside appetizers, salads, pies, pâtés, quiches, hors d’oeuvres, and land and sea recipes… Food lovers can indulge to their heart’s content.

Pastries remain firmly anchored in the Kaempff-Kohler DNA: after all, it was with this activity that it all started.
Today, the house pastry chefs continue to surprise customers at the city center boutique with their new creations – most recently the Koko, the Apricot Whirl, and the Pistachio Raspberry cake – which accompany a range of traditional pastries including, among others, the Dacquois, macarons, entremets, and seasonal tarts, gluten-free éclairs, and exceptional chocolate pieces of premium quality, not forgetting the delicious range of homemade confectionery.
