Bergamot Gin: A new Kaempff-Kohler product

Bergamot Gin
A new Kaempff-Kohler product

While gin originated in the 17th-century Netherlands, where it was born under the name “genever” (derived from juniper), this exquisite drink has since become a British symbol—but today gin is also being reinvented in Luxembourg.

Its basic production process is well known. It involves flavouring a high-quality neutral alcohol—obtained through the fermentation and distillation of grains (barley, wheat, rye, corn or molasses)—with juniper berries.

Each gin’s personal touch then comes from the addition of aromatic plants (botanicals). To create a unique recipe, the distiller can use different ingredients: coriander, citrus peels (lemon, orange), angelica roots, cinnamon, liquorice or, for example, as in Kaempff-Kohler’s new gin, bergamot. Unlike other spirits, gin generally does not require ageing and can be enjoyed soon after it is produced.
